The sand guide (Fantasy prop design)

We were 50 miles away from Neyshaboor, in a cold Summer night, and I was dying to understand how could we possibly find it – and my companion happily obliged: he pulled out of a strong wooden box a peculiar brass machine. "This will show us the way"

"It recognizes the sand of his motherland - and, when it does, and you press the right buttons, it'll show your the way"

He put the stones to form a triangle, a bit of sand inside, pressed 3 buttons in a sequence and... There it was: a map and a location. Created by the vibrations of this unexplainable machine, using sand as paper and its energy as ink.
